Implementing ISO Revision 2015 Share via Twitter Share via Facebook
The revision of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 offers new opportunities for designing your management system: a clearer orientation to organizational strategy, addressing risks and opportunities, promoting the process-approach and an enhanced consideration of performance and effectiveness – to name just a few aspects.

The publication of the Standard is planned for September 2015. We would like to inform you about your different options for passing your certification to the new ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Basic Information

The transition period is three years from the date of publication of the Standards ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 respectively. Thus, certificates based on ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 will no longer be valid after this transition period (see picture below).

Transition in the context of a recertification audit

The transition can be achieved through a recertification audit. This is the simplest, and thus our recommended option for your transition. Audit times and audit process will be the same as for ISO 9001:2008, however the new requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 will be audited instead of the former standard version.

Transition in the context of a surveillance audit

The transition can also be done within the context of a surveillance audit. Since all standard requirements need to be audited for the transition, additional audit time in the extent of a recertification audit has to be planned for this audit. The audit is then considered as a pre-dated recertification audit, the new certificate issued is valid for three years.

Recertification audits based on ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 after publication of the new standards

If you wish to carry out recertification against ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 14001:2004 after publication of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, this is in principle possible. However, we would like to point out that because of accreditation rules, we have to limit the validity of the certificate to the end of the transition period (September 2018).

We hope that this information assists you in planning and further development of your quality management system. For further assistance, we can offer you specific seminars, workshops and status evaluations of the implementation regarding to the new requirements of ISO 9001 or ISO 14001.
